Welcome to the SSSM

The Surgical Students Society of Melbourne (SSSM) has launched this site as a hub for information and educational materials. We are a student organisation run by medical students from The University of Melbourne with a passion for surgery and anatomy. We represent students from the Royal Melbourne Hospital, St. Vincent’s Hospital, Western Hospital and the Rural Clinical School.

The SSSM endeavours to foster the interest of medical students in surgery by providing educational and research opportunities, and to represent aspiring surgeons in establishing professional links with surgeons and surgical societies.

We currently hold weekly surgical lectures at the Royal Melbourne Hospital (targeted at 4th – 6th year students) and a number of other events, such as careers nights, throughout the year . The slides for these lectures are available for download on our website (see below).

To get updates on all our events, please join our facebook group ‘Surgical Students Society of Melbourne’ or our mailing list at sssmelb.mailinglist@gmail.com.

Surgical guides

Hi everyone,

If you check out our Surgical anatomy section there is a surgical guide with questions/ frameworks for thinking about common operations or at least interesting ones that you will encounter during your clinical years. Have a pre-read of them and we will discuss them in the introductory lectures we are running at RMH this year. At this stage the introductory lectures will run from Feb 7 every thursday for 4 weeks, but stay posted to our fb page and on site at RMH for any updates. For anyone that can’t make the lectures the answers to these questions will be made available at the end of the introductory lecture period!

See you guys soon!
